Aged Care

Entering the aged care system is often a difficult time for many families. We, or someone we love, face the prospect of a loss of independence. It can all be very scary.

What’s more, the financial aspects of the aged care system are incredibly complex. What fees do you have to pay? When do you have to pay them? To whom do you have to pay them? How does being in residential care affect your Centrelink entitlements? Your super arrangements? Your estate plans?

We can assist you to fully understand your financial situation and the way that this interacts with your aged care. This involves things like:

  • Working out the type and quality of care you can afford;
  • Working out the costs of this care;
  • Arranging to pay your accommodation and care fees that apply;
  • Ensuring you maximise your Centrelink pension and any other entitlements;
  • Best managing your family home and other significant assets; and
  • Simply ensuring that your time in aged care is as financially comfortable as possible.

In the best cases, planning for aged care should start well before the need for aged care arises. The planning should start when your retirement planning starts – aged care is, after all, part of your retirement. And starting the planning process as early as possible lets you also ensure that this planning complements the other elements of your financial plan, such as your estate planning.

That said, it is also never too late for good planning. So, if aged care is already a reality, then get in touch with us and make sure that you make that reality as pleasant and satisfying as possible.

Ben Frawley

Director | Certified Financial Planner

I, Ben Frawley, Certified Financial Planner and Director of Frawley Financial Planning & Retirement Services, have been in the financial services industry for over 35 years and financial planning for over 25 years, providing clients with sound, experienced advice that has enriched their lives.

Having grown up as the 5th of 6 boys and with a younger sister, I have learnt to communicate effectively with very different personalities from a young age, complemented by English & Linguistics, and Communications through my Arts Degree at Macquarie University. I believe communication is the key to effective financial planning.

Through my schooling, I held leadership positions at St Ignatius’ College, Riverview, and afterwards with North Sydney District Cricket Club and West Pennant Hills Cherrybrook Cricket Club, and Old Ignatians Cricket Club (Masters).

Upon completing my HSC in 1988, I worked with Macquarie Bank full time for 2 years and then part time through until the end of my Arts Degree in 1993.

I joined State Super Financial Services mid 1994, and by 1999 had worked hard and been promoted to financial planning, where I remained until 2008. I was then promoted to Regional Manager of the Penrith office. Here, I managed a team of 12 people and Funds Under Management of over $300M. I returned to Sydney as a Financial Planner in 2010 to continue my very successful financial planning career.

In 2010 I was in the Top 50 Australian Financial Review Masterclass examination of all CFPs throughout Australia.

In 2016, after 22 years, I left State Super Financial Services, and set up Frawley Financial Planning and Retirement Services, so that I can place greater focus on my clients and their needs, and place them first.

My three greatest passions in life are my beautiful family: my wife, Sue, and two boys Angus and Mitch; cricket and rugby.
